Again, I was planning to feature a different item but changed my mind at the last minute. Well, I’m a woman – so I’m entitled to be fickle-minded once in a while. hihihihi.
This piece of non porous glass bakeware caught my eye while browsing around the crockery and cutlery section at a thrift shop. I knew I had to get that for myself and ever since I took it home with me – I was itching to use it right away:
It’s great for making meatloaf and bread loaf! Prior to purchasing this, I’ve been using a meatloaf dish made of tin which I brought from the Philippines. For only $2, this is a great buy, regardless of the missing lid. It is, after all, a Pyrex product!
Although my oven is not working 100%, today, I attempted at baking my favourite banana cake. It’s one of those kamikaze things I do – doing something I know would fail but do it anyway, with fingers crossed. There’s no harm in trying, is there? In between mashing the bananas and sifting the wheat flour, I prayed hard to the baking goddess to let my oven work just for today, after all, it is my birthday and I want a banana cake for this special day
I must have done something good because the banana cake came out alright! I know the banana cake doesn’t look much but the taste more than makes up for the, errrm, sorry look. I’m happy with it. Frosting will be done a little later when it has cooled down a bit. And yes, the black bits are raisins. Ummmm, pasas! *lol*
Thank you, my dear baking goddess, for this small success! I don’t know how it happened – but yes, I got my wish
This makes for a great snack (or midnight snack) later, with a steaming cup of coffee, when the husband comes home from work.
I think I’m going back to that thrifting shop to get that Pyrex casserole dish, with a lid this time. I hope it is still there waiting for me.
So there goes my little birthday adventure. Thanks to all those who greeted me.

Awe! That is nice. Happy Birthday to you! Well, your wish was granted since it is your special day. LOL! I too have the same dish that I inherited from my MIL. She used to cook and bake a lot, but now that she is 94, old and can’t even take care of herself, she is now in the nursing home and we got some of her stuff. It’s really nice dish to have for baking all kinds of goodies! I love banana cake as well and I am thinking of making some this week.
Yummy!
Salamat, Adin!
Wow, your MIL must be a great baker and lucky you to be the sole inheritor of her valuable bakewares. My MIL bakes a lot, too, and sent me recipe books for various baked goodies. I just hope my oven is going to be fixed real soon so I don’t have to do another kamikaze mission. Since my husband and I are perpetually in transit, we could not invest in kitchen gadgets unless we settle soon and start building our house and home. For now, I’m happy with my thrifted finds
happy birthday and the baking goddess must have watched over you the whole time you were making that banana cake. looks yummy=)
Hi Cherry, thanks for the birthday greetings. The baking goddess kept an eye on me and the banana cake — and for about 1.5hrs. Normally the baking time is about 30mins but because I have an oven that doesn’t work 100%, it took longer.Nevertheless it came out great. Thanks for dropping by.
